Patio and groundwork calculators

Quantities for patios, bases and paths: the slabs, the sub-base under them, and the concrete or gravel that goes with them.

Planning a patio or base: the order to work in

  1. Check the rules. A hard surface of more than 5 m² in a front garden needs to be permeable or drained within the property. Next to the house, keep the surface 150 mm below the damp proof course.
  2. Plan the build-up. Slab, bedding and sub-base set the dig depth. The patio calculator adds them up and gives the fall.
  3. Order the sub-base. The gravel and aggregate calculator turns an area and depth into tonnes and bulk bags.
  4. Pour a base. The concrete base calculator gives cubic metres, bags or a site mix.
